This Springbok tight five led the successful Stellenbosch rock invasion, emerging halfway through the '90's with their winning blend of sonic metal, strong and melodic songs, rousing and deafening concerts and iconic frontman and musicians. They released four classic SA rock albums ('Neanderthal 1', 'Afterlifesatisfaction', 'Surpass The Powers' and 'Relaxzor') and a half-dozen collectable EPs, and bestrode the SA rock scene like talented and fully-confident rude boys, planning each step of their rock careers, yet striving to avoid the 'Blue Eyes' path to (sell out) pop glory that kept opening up before them.

They remained focused and a law unto themselves, both live and in the studio, believing in their collective ability to make their own decisions regarding styles, sounds, and set lists.

The Springbok N*de Girls, with Arno Carstens (vox), Theo Crous (guitars), Adriaan Brand (keyboards / trumpet), Arno Blumer (bass) & Francious Kruger (drums), started performing live again at the end of last year, and I have been told that they are to release a brand new album titled Peace Breaker, through SonyBMG, early this year.

Together, Arno and the N*de Girls are just magic! As a solo artist, and as the lead man for the group, he has gone platinum 4 times, he’s had 9 number 1 hit singles, won 5 SAMA’s for Best Albums – and in our local industry – that is something impressive.

Arno has evolved one of the most successful solo musical careers in South Africa, releasing his first solo album Another Universe in 2003 with his newly formed band Nu Porn and with the assistance of a successful business partnership with two prominent Cape Town business men and his old record label chum Paul Thackwray. Arno went on to win ‘Best Rock’ album for Another Universe at SAMA 2004, and achieved gold sales within a year. after release.

Theo has continued to perform as a guitarist for the now infamous Afrikaans cult band ‘Kobus’ and is still renowned as ‘the most electric’ electric guitarist in South Africa. As with Arno, Theo has also evolved substantially as a musician and producer since the Nude Girls last created new music together. The combination of Arno Carstens and Theo Crous is still widely considered South Africa’s strongest front man / lead guitarist rock and roll pairing ever.
