DNA Strings are one of South Africa's best-known
instrumental bands, playing an average of 16 shows
per month all over the country. They have won awards
for Best Live Performance, Best Duo/Group, Best
Contempory Band and Best Contempory Album and have
received numerous nominations including Best
Instrumental Band. The music, of which the essence
is captured in their live shows, can be described as
pulsating, energetic, uplifting, passionate and
powerful. |

More on DNA Strings....
DNA Strings began as a duo called D&A, standing for
himself and longtime friend Adriaan de Beer, who
plays guitar. So what does DNA stand for now,
bearing in mind there's no one among them whose name
begins with N?
"Well, let's just say there's music in our genes,"
he chuckles.
DNA became a threesome when they were joined by
percussionist Flippie du Plessis. Completing the
quintet are Jacques Steyn (bass guitar) and Iwan
Kemp (drums).
They have become known for a dynamic, interactive,
vibeing show that has the crowd clapping, dancing
and cheering, always leaving them wanting more.
Their live show is a showcase of their fusion of
styles which include: African, Irish, South
American, Traditional Folk and even some North
African Arabic sounds. Flamenco Guitar, Violin,
Drums, Bass Guitar and a multitude of percussion
from all over the world dish up their ethnic sounds.
Their sounds have taken them to other parts of
Africa, the Edinburgh Fringe festival in Scotland
the Seychelles and even a show in the Royal Albert
Hall.
In the beginning of 2001 the band changed to
DNA Strings with the addition of
Flippie du Plessis to the band.Adriaan and
Flippie new each other from their days spent on
holiday at Buffelsbaai close to Knysna where they
worked together as barmen en made noise beside the
fire at the beach parties.
